THE BLESSINGS OF OBED-EDOM

THE SECRET OF OBED-EDOM

We don’t know much about Obed-Edom. He’s only mentioned a few times in the Bible. But we do know that God obviously blessed him. The bible says, “The LORD blessed the household of Obed-Edom and all that he had.”

Have you ever really thought about that passage? What did those blessings look like? Exactly how did God bless him?

What do you think those blessings might have looked like … and what it means for you and me today.

I think not many Christian do not know much about Obed-Edom in the Old Testament, a man who was blessed by God in three months after King David "abandoned" the Ark in his house. We invite you to read more and learn more about the man's stewardship as a faithful, even though temporary caretaker of the Ark, a devoted worshiper and gatekeeper in the house of God, and above all, a good family man who raised capable sons and grandchildren.

The Qualities of Obed-Edom

1. Obed-Edom the Gittite was not a complete stranger, at least in his community. I believe King David immediately made consultations on who was trustworthy to keep the ark around the community where Uzzah touched the ark and died.

2. Obed-Edom was a Levite, so by leaving the ark in his house, David ensured the ark was within the priesthood.

3. Obed-Edom proved to be a faithful steward of the ark in his house so much so that in 90 days, God fell in love with him and blessed him and all his household.

4. How did he do it? We can safely conclude that knowing that the ark had killed a fellow citizen, Obed-Edom made up his mind to do all in his power to safeguard, treasure and dignify the ark in the time he would keep it in his house.

5. He compel everyone in his household to avoid being careless about their new “treasure”

6. Obed-Edom led his entire family, including relatives, to worship God like never before on account of the ark. 1 Chronicles 16:4-6 shows that he was one of the Levites appointed by King David "to commemorate, to thank and to praise the Lord God of Israel".

7. King David also conferred on him and Jehiah, another Levite, the assignment of keeping the door to the ark.

MOVING TO WHERE GOD IS!

Obed-Edom has to pack and physically move to stay in the presence of the Lord.  His relationship with God established a relationship between God and his children and all his descendants

Today we don’t need to physically travel to be in the presence of God.  We as believers have the Holy Spirit within us.  But is up to us to move from our daily doings, to leave aside our busyness and come into the shelter of His Holy Presence.  His desire is to have a relationship with us. He wants us to be passionate for him. We need to do what it takes to be in His glorious presence.

God bless you.
