John 20:25 “…But he [Thomas] said to them, ‘Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails…I will not believe.’ … 27 Then He [Jesus] said to Thomas, ‘Reach here with your finger, and see My hands…and do not be unbelieving, but believing.”
John 20:29 "Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;
vs. 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that believing you may have life (Zoe in Greek - God's Life) in His name.
When we take the whole discussion of faith: the distinction between belief in God and believing God.
I think belief in God is in our mind only where we study but believing God is when we have an experience with God and knows God. However, there is a place in scripture where we have come across this concept of faith in the book of James.
You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! James 2:19 (NKJV).
They key is in distinguishing between a belief in God and believing God. Belief is mocked, believing is praised. “For what does the Scripture say? ‘ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.’ ” Romans 4:3. Abraham not only believed in God, but he believed God, and it was his believing God that was credited to him as righteousness.
Friends, as I read Bro. Alan Hiu blog he said that the Lord reminded him with this wonderful quote...
"WHENEVER WE STOP BELIEVING, THE GRACE THAT WE THINK WE ARE IN, HAS ALREADY BECOMES A RELIGION...!"
How true it is, as the Scriptures says how “Blessed are we who have not seen and yet have believed the works of Jesus.” As I wrote concerning the Holy Communion Jesus is saying to each one of us “Reach out your faith and believe in Me. Do not be unbelieving but believing.”
Hebrews 3:19 “So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.” We enter into the blessings of God with rest.
Hebrews 4:2 “For indeed the gospel (of grace) was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
Today if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts. “For the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
Vs. 16 “Let us therefore come boldly to the Throne of Grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. We need, like Thomas in the bible grace to believe in Jesus.
May the good Lord bless you believing Jesus and His wonderful gracious grace!
